James Samie Martin, Sr., 79, of Chatham, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at Duke Regional Hospital, Durham, North Carolina. He was born March 1, 1939, in Henry County, to the late George and Maggie Martin Martin. He was a member of Schoolfield Primitive Baptist Church of Chatham.

He was retired from Pillowtex and was a member of the NAACP. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Alford McHimer and Bruce E. McHimer; and brothers, Harold Martin and Fred Martin. Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Karen Cosby Martin; daughters, Valerie Randall, Doretha Mary McHimer and Macealla McHimer; son, James S. Martin, Jr.; sister, Lillie M. Hughes; sister-in-law, Adron Martin; six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Monday, February 11, 2019 at Wright Funeral Service Chapel at 11:00 A. M. with Elder Dean Harris officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be private.
