James Thurman McKenzie, age 86, of Oak Island, NC, died Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Liberty Lane Hospice in Salisbury, NC. He was born in Marlboro County, SC on Sept. 27, 1932 to the late Dan McKenzie and Carlee Prevatte McKenzie.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Janie Mae McKenzie. Mr. McKenzie worked for the Department of Transportation as a driver until his retirement. He served his country as a veteran in the US Army.

James is survived by his sons, Gary McKenzie and wife Jane of Seagrove and Donald Thurman McKenzie of Cameron; a daughter, Tammy Kivett and husband Ed of Salisbury; a brother Hugh Hargrove and wife Mary Lee of Whiteville; sisters Sarah Williams and husband Steven of Hamlet and Margaret Shimata of Hawaii; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home on Thursday, December 27, 2018, 3:30pm with Rev. Jack Kivett and Pastor Ed Kivett officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Lee Memory Gardens with Pastor Adam BeddingField officiating. Arrangements by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home, Inc. Condolences may be made at www.
