James W. Briggs, Sr., age 83, passed away Friday, April 27th, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Deerfield, MI on October 30, 1934 the son of F. Donald and Ruth E. (Feist) Briggs. He grew up on a farm in Ottawa Lake, Michigan, graduated with honors from Blissfield High in 1953 and attended Davis Business College.

He married Norma Wells, his high school sweetheart, on April 14, 1956. He began a career in data processing at AP Parts Corporation and later worked at consulting firms developing banking applications. The last 26 years of his career were spent at Ohio Citizens and First National Bank, beginning as a computer programmer and ending as the manager of the Systems & Programming department.

Jim loved his work and the people he worked with and dedicated many hours to it while he and Norma raised 4 children. He enjoyed participating in and attending all their activities as they grew up. Jim was an avid Toledo hockey fan and season ticket holder for 25 years.

He also enjoyed bow hunting, canoeing, bicycle riding and most of all, family get-togethers and annual family vacations. All that knew him will miss his quick wit, sharp sense of humor and his kind, gentle soul. He was an active member of the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour where he served on Church Council and various committees.

In his retirement, he worked as a volunteer in the church office for many years. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Bert Carmichael. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, Norma, his children James, Jr. (Anita), Pamela (Paula), David (Danielle) and Daniel Briggs; grandchildren Ryan (Katie) Briggs, Erin Tower, Gwendolyn and Audrey Briggs; great-grandchildren Aiva and Madelyn Tower and Edison Briggs and his sister Betty Carmichael of Youngstown.

Visitation will be held at the Reeb Funeral Home, Sylvania, Tuesday, May 1, 2018 from 4-8:00 P.M. where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour Memorial Fund, 2820 W. Alexis, Toledo, OH 43613.
