Obituary for Janice “Jan” Schweitzer (Gersch) Janice Lou Schweitzer, age 80, of Alpine Township, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 4, 2018. Janice was born August 15, 1938 in Grand Rapids, MI to Luella and George Gersch. Janice is survived by her brother, George (Marlene) Gersch, her loving husband of 60 years, Frederick “Fritz” Schweitzer; 5 children, 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Luanne (Mark) Karas and family; Bradley (Na’amah), Benjamin (Kelli) and family; Bryce, Carter, Owen and Sophia. Alexander (Jessica) and family; Lydia and Jack. Matthew (Emily).

Mary (Dave)D’Amico and family; Joseph and Laura. Frederick , Jr. (Amy) Schweitzer and family; Justin and Kirstin. Timothy (Dawn) Schweitzer and family; Nicholas, Samuel , and Nolan.

Jeffrey (Julie) Schweitzer and family; Peter and Caroline. Foster daughter, Gail Woods. And several exchange students from multiple countries, including most recently Paulo Cunha of Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Janice is a graduate of Catholic Central High School Class of 1956. Janice and Fred were married at Holy Trinity on August 30, 1958 and were lifelong members. Janice enjoyed the busy farm life, including the family farm market and running Alpine Orchards.

She will be remembered for her delicious pies and her great love of family. It wasn’t uncommon to see several grandchildren sitting at the kitchen table visiting with her on a daily basis, often playing cards and laughing. Children and grandchildren would stop by and visit on their own, not out of obligation but because everyone felt loved and taken care of in her presence.

Jan went to church regularly and volunteered, baking and caring for others suited her servant heart. The Schweitzers’ will greet family and friends on Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00 pm at the Beushel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Avenue NW, Comstock Park, with a Rosary Service at 7:30 pm with Deacon Jerry Roersma. The Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Janice’s life will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 11:00am, with visitation one hour prior at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1200 Alpine Church Rd.

NW, Comstock Park, MI, with the Rev. Father Thomas G. Simons presiding. Private interment will follow at the Holy Trinity Cemetery.
