Benson, 84 of McAlester died Saturday May 11, 2019 in McAlester at a local nursing center. A graveside memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday May 16, 2019 at Oak Hill Cemetery officiated by Mr. Mark Halyard. Inurnment will follow.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Jason Clifton, Adam Hancock and Colby Youngblood. J. B. was born to Fred and Ora (Christy) Benson March 6, 1935 in Canadian. He attended Indianola School.

J.B. served in the U.S. Army. He married Mary Jo Ann Adams January 4, 1954 in McAlester. They had moved to California before settling in McAlester.

J.B. worked in the grocery business in California, as an inspector at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant for 12 years then as a salesman for Ada Brick and retired from The Oaks where he worked as a maintenance man. He enjoyed yardwork and gardening. He was a member of the Indianola Masonic Lodge.

J. B. was preceded in death by his parents. Fred and Ora Benson; 3 brothers, Robert Benson, Kenneth Benson, Tom Benson; 4 sisters, Lela Yates, Gladys Davenport, Norma Jean Coop, infant Bonnie Benson; son-in-law, Rockey Myskey. Survived by: wife, Jo Ann Benson of the home; daughters: Deborah Clifton of McAlester, Cheryl Hancock and Roy Williams of Alderson, Vickie Myskey of Edmond; grandchildren: Jason Clifton, Brandie Youngblood, Adam Hancock, Melissa Myskey, B. J. Myskey; great grandchildren: Taylor Weeks, Colby Youngblood, Cheyanne Clifton, Jaidah Clifton, Jewell Giddings; great-great grandchildren: Gracelynn, Raine and Olivia; sister, Millie Preston of McAlester; brother-in-law, Bill Coop of McAlester; and sister-in-law, Donna Benson of Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
