Jean (Carrier) Taylor, 83, resident of Harrisburg passed away in peace January 29, 2019 at the Harrisburg Medical Center. She was born a coal miner’s daughter on October 5, 1935 to Wendell and Mamie (Gann) Carrier of Ledford. She was a longtime member of the Ledford Community and the Ledford Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son: David R. Taylor and his wife Diana of Harrisburg; grandsons: Nathan and Justin Taylor and great grandchildren Garrett, Katelyn, and Hunter all of Carterville. She is also survived by nieces: Kathy McKendree of Harrisburg, ReJeana Ebert of Tomahawk, WI, and Darlene Sumner of Michigan. She is also survived by nephews; Ed Flannell of Herod, Louis Diefenbach of Michigan and Michael Gene Diefenbach of Alcoa, Tennessee along with many great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters: Lola Flannell of Harrisburg and Magalene Diefenbach of Michigan. She was also preceded in death by a nephew, Cecil Wayne Flannell of Michigan and her former husband, Everett R. Taylor. Jean was an avid bowler and had her own ladies team for many years.

She worked in retail sales all her life back when downtown Harrisburg was the economic center. She was employed at Plaza Fashions and Louise’s Dress Shop and finished her career as manager of John Hill’s Jewerly Store. She loved working in the public and spoke often of her friends and customers including “Crazy” Jim Watson and the ladies of Bob’s Discount.

Jean dearly loved her parents and took care of them later in life. She loved her son, grandkids, great grandkids and family. She was deeply loved and will be missed by them all.

In addition to friends, the family extends gratitude to Dr. Duncan, the staff at HMC, Kelly Phelps and Sloan Medical Clinic, and the staff at Carrier Mills Nursing Home. Their care and kindness made her journey less difficult and gave great support to the family. Funeral arrangements are being made through Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.
