Jean Sencibaugh September 23, 1923 – January 23, 2019 Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Dortha Jean (Mitchell) Sencibaugh departed this life on January, 23 2019 at her beloved home on the “hill” at the age of 95 years and 4 months. Her greatest desire was to pass from this life at home in Lesterville, Missouri and she achieved that goal peacefully surrounded by family. Mitch (as she was known) was born to Joseph and Esther Mitchell on September 23, 1923 in Southern Illinois.

She is survived by her sister, Roberta Donihi of Herron, Illinois, as well as a host of nephews and nieces and many many friends. She is preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Mitchell in 1996 and her husband, John Sencibaugh in November 2009. In 1946 Mitch was united in marriage to Harley Jones for a brief period of time but married the love of her life, John Sencibaugh Jr. in September 1947.

They moved to their home in Lesterville in 1953 and remained a large part of this community until their passing. Mitch received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Peabody College in Tennessee and her master’s degree in nursing from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She worked a short time at the Lutheran Hospital in St. Louis.

She was the first Reynolds County nurse and became the area supervisor of nursing for Southeastern Missouri. Mitch was a very private person and shared little about herself to the outside world but was always willing to help a neighbor or friend. She enjoyed staying current on the latest medical advances, events happening in the world and visiting with friends that came by.

She was always concerned about higher education for young adults and established the John & Jean Sencibaugh Scholarship fund for Lesterville students to attend a trade school. Her memory was always amazing and could easily recall dates, family lineage, and medical fact from the past. If asked a question she might say “Let me think about it” and shortly answer the question.

She was loved and will be greatly missed. Rest in peace sweet lady. Visitation: Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00 AM at McSpadden Funeral Home in Lesterville Funeral: Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 1:00 PM at McSpadden Funeral Home in Lesterville Burial: Rayfield Cemetery Clergy: Rev.
