Obituary for Jeanette Catherine “Jean” Gittings Jeanette Catherine “Jean” Gittings, 92, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Baptist Health Floyd County, IN. She was born October 17, 1926 in Daytona Beach, FL a daughter to the late Harry B. Cassin and Anastasia Malone Cassin. Jean was a longtime member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

She was a loving, strong willed and determined lady. Jean enjoyed the challenge of a puzzle and her “mommy day” every Wednesday with her daughter Therese and her granddaughter Emily. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Mary E. Walker and her 4 sisters, Margaret Cassin, Anastasia Brown, Florence Pendergast and Mildred Rutledge.

Jean is survived by her two daughters, Therese A. Roberts (Kenneth M.), Alice M. Downey; seven grandchildren, Mary Helen Gaskin, Jerry William Downey, Jr (Sarah), Thomas Edward Payne, Christine Roberts, James Russell Downey and William and Emily Roberts; 10 great-grandchildren, Amber, Serena, Logan, Hannah, Steven, Austin, Leanna, Ella, Erica and Hayden and many other extended family and friends. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a . m.

Thursday, January 10, 2019 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1960 Bardstown Road with burial to follow in St. Louis Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, “in St. Matthews”. Memorial contributions may be made to her church.
