MADISON-Jeffrey C. “Jeff” Brown, age 67, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at UW Hospital, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on October 20, 1950, in Madison, WI, the son of George and Betty (Myhre) Brown. Jeff was a proud graduate of East High School, Class of 68, and went on to obtain his Bachelor’s degree from UW Madison.

He married Julie Setzkorn on July 12, 1986 at Olbrich Gardens in Madison. His working career was spent as a Computer Programmer for the State… Read More » of Wisconsin, finally retiring in 2011. Jeff was a lifelong avid golfer, hitting two hole-in-ones and winning numerous Yahara Hills championships, and filled the long winter months bowling.

He traveled extensively, and especially enjoyed visits to many National Parks with his family. Jeff took annual golf vacations and frequently played cards with his good friends of fifty years. Jeff was an incredibly kind and generous person.

He was very smart and relished any mental challenge (he was known for balancing the checkbook in his head). He taught himself to remodel and built an addition to their home, and enjoyed any math, crossword puzzles, and Sodoku. Jeff loved old movies and watching shows like Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

His family meant the world to him and he was thrilled to have met his first grandchild, Liam, just a few weeks ago. He is survived by his wife, Julie; two daughters, Kimberly (Kyle) Smith, and Nikki Brown; his grandson, Liam Smith; mother, Betty; his sisters, Janeen (Dick) Masse and Andrea (John) Emmerich; brother, Kevin Brown; his mother-in-law, Judy Setzkorn; and several wonderful nieces and nephews. Jeff is further survived by his lifelong friends Joe, Dan, Paul, and Tony, who spent countless hours supporting Jeff over the last few months.

He was preceded in death by his father, George. Jeff will be interred at Roselawn Memorial Park. A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held later in the summer.
