Jessie Eugene Smith, 89, of Mount Pleasant, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018 at home with family by his side. Gene was born November 28, 1929 in Cabarrus County the late Charles and Rettie Smith. He was also preceded in death by son, Ronnie Eugene Smith; grandson, Christopher “BoBo” Shue; brother, George Smith; sister, Patsy Honeycutt; and nephew, Jeffery Lambert.

Gene was a devoted farmer for many years and enjoyed sharing with others. He loved gardening, John Deere Tractors and most of all, spending time with his family in the mountains. He was a member of Miami Baptist Church.

He loved everybody, especially his grandkids and Lulu, his dog. Survivors include wife of 65 years, Mildred Burris Smith; daughter, Jackie (Daniel) Hallman; son, Timmie (Debra) Smith; son, Johnny (Shelia Benton) Smith; daughter-in-law, Debbie Smith; sister, Sarah Eudy; 8 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Saturday, December 29, 2018 from 1:00 pm – 2:45 pm, at Miami Baptist Church, 6701 Miami Church Rd, Concord.

The memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Robert Howard and Rev. Mike Culler.
