Obituary for Jo Ann Flowers Jo Ann Flowers (née Pell) died peacefully after a long battle with Ovarian Cancer on September 23, 2018 in Charleston, SC at the age of 64. Jo Ann is survived by her husband, John Magill Flowers, of Mims, Florida; Children: Melissa Ray (Jeffery) of Charleston, South Carolina, Jeffery Goodson of Jacksonville, Florida. Brothers: Robert Pell of Auburn Valley, Washington, Melvin Helley and Kurt Helley of Whidbey Island, Washington, Sister: Linda Butterworth of Clinton, Washington; Grandchildren: Austin Goodson of Jacksonville, FL, John Alexander Owens of Charleston, SC, Jeffrey Paul Goodson II of Jacksonville, FL, Keightlynn Goodson of Jacksonville, FL.
She is preceded in death by her father Grover Cleveland Pell and mother: Aura Claire Pell, Brother: Larry Grover Pell, and Mother in Law: Nina Katheryn Heniford Flowers. Jo Ann was born on April 8th, 1954 in Seattle, Washington. She graduated from South Whidbey High School in 1972.
She married John M. Flowers in 1981 in Brunswick, Maine. John’s Navy and Civil service career had the family relocate to many cities in Maine, Kentucky, South Carolina and Florida. During these years, Jo Ann worked many positions from selling Jewelry to being a secretary at the Monkey farm.
Upon John’s retirement from civil service, Jo Ann and John retired to Mims, Florida to reside on a Travel park. Retirement did not sit well with Jo Ann so she worked in the office of Summer In the Sun RV Park making many friends and enjoying the transient life the park provided. Her children remember her as a driven woman who always would lend a kind ear and encouraged them to pursue their goals.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on October 12th, 2018 at Cooper River Baptist Church, with an ash internment to follow at Riverview Cemetery in North Charleston, SC. Reverend Roger Dobbins will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jo Ann’s life.
