Joan A. Larsen 74, Appleton, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Cherry Meadows with her loving husband at her side. She was born on May 8, 1944 in Appleton to the late Robert and Jean (Schlosser) Gibson. Joan graduated from Appleton West High School in 1962.

That is where she met the love of her life, Niels C. Larsen Jr. and they wed on February 5, 1963. Her son Niels III was born with Autism and she became an advocate for teaching him and learning about the illness. She also taught others about Autism and was influential with getting Autistic children into public schools.

She enjoyed working as a teacher at a Day Care after her son was older. Joan will be greatly missed by her husband, Niels Jr. of 55 years; her son, Niels III; brother-in-law Richard Plamann and his three sons: Roy Plamann, Rick (Jen) Plamann and Michael (Beverly) Plamann. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Joyce Plamann and brother: Bill and Norman Gibson.

A Funeral Service for Joan will take place Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 12 PM (Noon) at Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit the family from 10 – Noon. Joan will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery, Appleton.
