Obituary for Joan Bird Collins (Colyer) Memorial services for Joan Bird Collins, 88, of Grand Saline, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2018, at Bartley Funeral Home. Mrs. Collins passed away November 5, 2018, in Quitman. She was born March 19, 1930, in Dobbs Ferry, New York.

She spent her early years in Grand Prairie and Dallas and the last 40 years in East Texas. Joan graduated from Grand Prairie High School, Class of 1948. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Quitman and worked as a tax preparer.

She was a volunteer for the Republican Women’s Auxiliary. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, father, Paul H. Colyer and mother, Josephine Keith; husband, Robert Bird; and brother, Joseph Keith Lane. Survivors include her daughter, Pam Honeycutt Schmitz of Grand Saline; three grandchildren, Kenneth Hejny and wife Natalie of Grand Saline, Joni Lovett and husband Douglas of Grand Saline and John Wright and wife Daniella of Dallas; twelve great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
