Obituary for Mrs. Joan D. McClellan On Friday, June 8, 2018 Joan Dorothy McClellan passed away at the age of 70. She is survived by her beloved husband of 34 years, Patrick McClellan and her brother, Bill (Arlene) Whitacre. She was predeceased by her mother, Dorothy Whitacre, her sister, Ruth (Artie) Petz, and her brother, Bob (Judy) Whitacre.
Joan will also be forever remembered by her 28 nieces and nephews, 34 great nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends. A native of Brooklyn, NY, she worked as an Executive Assistant for Brooklyn Union Gas/KeySpan Corporation for 35 years. She later moved to Monmouth Beach, NJ and for the last 9 years resided in Ocean, NJ.
Joan and her beloved husband Patrick met at Brooklyn Union Gas. They were married on May 26, 1984. In their many years together, they shared countless memories, unforgettable vacations, and an abundance of love and respect for each other.
Joan loved her Cedar Village community and playing cards with friends each week, taking trips to her favorite places like Atlantic City or family vacations to Hershey Park, her collection of Precious Moments, lighthouses, and shopping at many of her favorite stores. She also spent a great deal of her time in the company of her nieces and nephews and their children, who she loved and treated like her own. She was not just an aunt; she was like a mother, grandmother, confidant, and best friend.
She poured endless love into her family and friends, and received great amounts of love in return. She will always be remembered and in our hearts. Friends and family are invited to view from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8pm on Monday, June 11, 2018 and Tuesday, June 12, 2018.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 11:30am at Greenfield Cemetery in Hempstead, NY.
