Joan H. Schuhmann, 86, died peacefully on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Atria-Springdale, where she was a Resident Ambassador. Joan was born in Louisville, KY on June 13, 1932 to Ruth (Higgins) and Michael Healy. Her Roman Catholic faith was very important to her.

Joan attended Holy Rosary Academy for grade school and Loretta High School. In 1956, she was married to Robert Prescott Schuhmann. She and Bob raised two sons, Bob and Tom.

Joan loved to spend her days gardening, cooking, and sewing. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family! Joan was a long-time parishioner at St.Louis Bertrand Catholic Church.

She volunteered for several years at the Louisville Nature Center and Supplies Over Seas. She was also a former board member for the Lyndon chapter of AARP. Joan was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

She is survived by her sons, Bob (Libba) and Tom. Also surviving her are her grandchildren, Laura Crawford (Will), Tom, Rob, Betsy, and Will, and her sister-in-law, Kathleen Bronner. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church, 1104 S. 6th Street with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2019 at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, “in St. Matthews”. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Our Lady’s Rosary Makers. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Joan H.
