Joan’s Obituary Joan L. Lubash, 88, of Mayfield, died Monday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was the widow of Theodore Lubash, who died in 2002. The couple was married for 36 years.

Born in Carbondale on Feb. 13, 1930, daughter of the late Clarence and Helena Judge Shaw, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Marywood University and was employed as a librarian at Weston Controls in Archbald before leaving work to raise her family. She was a member of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish, Jermyn.

Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was adored by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Joan was an avid reader and a devote Catholic who found great solace in her faith.

She enjoyed the theater especially musicals, spending time with her family and taking trips to the casino. Surviving are five children, Joseph Lubash and wife, Robyn, Montrose; Theresa Lubash, with whom she resided, and fiancé, Michael J. Rusyn III; Maria Diehl and husband, Kevin, Mayfield; Robert Lubash and wife, Kacy, North Easton, Mass. ; and Nancy Durkin and husband, William, Archbald; seven grandchildren, Frank and Theodore Lubash, Joshua and Zachary Diehl, Tenley Lubash, Kathleen and Billy Durkin; two brothers, Robert Shaw, Queens, N.Y.; and Thomas Shaw and wife, Mary Ann, Carbondale; two sisters, Helene Gilroy and husband, Jack, Endwell, N.Y.; and Mary Shaw, Carbondale; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Ryczak-Harrison Funeral Home Inc., 901 Lackawanna Ave. , Mayfield, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Parish, Jermyn, with the Rev. Joseph Mosley officiating.

Interment will be in Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. Viewing will be held Thursday, 4 to 7 p.m. Donations may be made in Joan’s memory to the Carbondale Public Library.
