Joan Stone, 85, of Harding Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 at her home. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at First Baptist Church with Associate Pastor Kevin Pence officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Joan was born June 2, 1933 in Childress, Texas to Roy and Lois (Scott) Woods. She graduated from Paducah High School in 1951.

Joan married Hershel E. Stone September 25, 1952 in Tucumcari, NM. They moved to Carlsbad from Texas in 1966. Joan worked for several banks in Carlsbad for many years before retiring.

She enjoyed gardening and loved caring for her family. Joan was a long-time member of the First Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors are her husband, Hershel Stone of Carlsbad, NM; sons: Hershel Stone, Jr. and wife, Sherry of Loving, NM, Phillip Stone and wife, Celeste of Nogal, NM and Gerry Stone and wife, Tina of Alvord, Texas; grandchildren: Shelby Stone, Shaundra Stone, Kimberly Browning and husband, Kyle and Katie Stone; great-grandchildren: Chase, Zane, Aspen, Cypress, Kyle, Jr., Colton and Hunter; sister, Jean Sumruld and husband, James of Hobbs, NM; nephews: John Paul and Rodney; niece, Melonie; great-nephews: Dustin and Jesse and great-nieces, Rachel and Haley. Pallbearers will be Hershel Stone, Jr., Phillip Stone, Gerry Stone, Kyle Browning, Mark Cattaneo and Rod Sumruld. Honorary pallbearer is Rick Ankerholz.
