Obituary for Joanne Martha (nee Wiegand) Armstrong-Moon Joanne Martha (Wiegand) Armstrong-Moon passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 2, 2018, with her loving husband Don P. Moon at her side. She was a loving and much beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother. Joanne (Jody) was born to William G. and Beulah E. (Ealy) Wiegand on November 21, 1934 in St. Charles, Illinois.

Jody attended Geneva high school and received a B.A. from the University of Chicago. Jody married Andrew (Andy) F. H. Armstrong in 1959 and settled in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, where they raised three daughters, Margaret, Sarah and Jennifer.

Jody opened a lunch, gift and clothing store called “The Runaway Unicorn” which expanded to Freeport, IL and to Clinton, IA. After her marriage to Andy ended, Jody married Don P. Moon and moved to Waukegan, IL. Jody built a career in Chicago real estate and supported Don’s work as President of Shimer College and minister at Christ Episcopal Church, both in Waukegan.

Jody loved painting, writing, gardening, hiking, and traveling to visit family with Don and their beloved dog, Jed. Jody will be greatly missed by her husband, Don; sister Joyce Wiegand- Bavas; brother Thomas (Suzanne Newton) Wiegand; daughters Meg (Barry Guiduli) Armstrong and Jennifer (James Taylor) Armstrong; stepdaughters Barbara (Bruce) Showalter; Sharon (Jim Schroder) Moon; Joanna (Michael) Bass; stepson Stephen (Diana Lowry) Moon; granddaughters Jessica Armstrong and Sofia Guiduli; grandson Bruno Guiduli; and nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her beloved daughter Sarah Armstrong.

A celebration of her life and new life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 18th, at Christ Episcopal Church, Waukegan, Illinois. The family is deeply grateful to Jan (Paxton), Krystle (Welch), and Norma (Goldman) for their devoted support and caregiving during Jody’s long illness. Memorial donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity (habitat.org) or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (st.
