Obituary for John A. “Ab” Reed John A. “Ab” Reed, Sr., passed away peacefully on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital. Born September 14, 1919 in Siglerville to the late S. Oscar and Verna (Ramsey) Reed. He was preceded in death on December 6, 1993, by his first wife, Mildred “Bobbie” (Cockrill) Reed.

He is survived by his second wife, Mary E. (Miller) Reed of Elmcroft. Surviving also are his son, James Reed and wife, Mary, of Bellwood; daughter, Jodi Shimp and husband Roger of Reedsville; son John Reed, Jr. of Lewistown; and son, Jeffery Reed and wife Tina of Lewistown, and step-children, Lawna Foster and husband William of Milroy, Judith Stonerook and husband Donald of Lewistown, and Traci Gaisior and Max of McVeytown. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Keith Cram, Julie Winters, Matt Cram, Jason Reed, Jill Reed and Ryan Reed, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

One brother, Robert Reed and wife Shirley of Centre Hall also survive. Ab was predeceased by brothers Ray, Jay and Harry Reed and sisters, Jessie Myers, Leone Lutz and Madeline Zeigler. He was also predeceased by his grandson, James Reed, Jr. After being a long-time member of the Lewistown Presbyterian Church, he joined the McVeytown United Methodist Church when he remarried and moved to Mattawana.

He was first employed at the American Viscose for 13 years and later at Standard Steel for 21 years until his retirement. Ab was a devoted blood donor and volunteered many years for Meals on Wheels. He was a great sports fan and ushered at the PSU football games for many years and attended many local school sports events.

His greatest sports interests were tennis and bowling which he participated in into his 80’s. In 1993, he was given the Brotherhood Award from the Roundtable of Christians and Jews. Barr Funeral Home is handling the arrangements which are private.
