Obituary for John Napier John B. Napier, 84, of Lumberport went home to his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at the United Hospital Center with his family by his side. He was born August 7, 1933 in East Lynn, Wayne County, West Virginia a son of the late William E. and Frances Napier. John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Lee Drain Napier who died on November 18, 2001.
He is survived by his sons, Dennis R. Napier and his wife Rose of Lumberport; John W. Napier and his wife Shelia of Lumberport; his daughter, Linda McKnight of Bridgeport; his grandchildren, Major Dennis M. and wife Major Megan Napier of Albuquerque, NM; Suzanne Napier of Savannah, GA; John Brandon Napier and wife Rachel; Madeline Burns and husband Mark; Jacob W. Napier and wife Carissa, all of Lumberport; Gary Lee Lanham Jr. and wife Shawn of Barrackville; David R. Lanham and wife Lisa of Ohio; Karissa Montgomery and husband Brian of NC; and Melissa Riggs and husband Curtis of Bridgeport; and a “quiver full” of great-grandchildren; also surviving are his brothers, Otis Watts and wife Ina of Cunningham Run; and Larry Watts of Salem; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Kimberly Ann Napier; his son, Gary Lee Lanham, Sr.; his siblings, Doc, Clyde, Norman, James, Dennis and William “Junior” Napier; Olen Watts; Martha Hagan; and Mary Basiden and his close friend, Jack Keener. John served our country in the U.S. Army.
He was the adored patriarch of his immediate and extended family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy and were sure to bring a smile to his face. John loved to go to auctions and make friends buying, selling, and trading almost anything imaginable.
He always had a special place in his heart for children in need. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. John retired from Robinson Run #95 coal mine in 1994 and was a member of the U.M.W.A.
John was also a member of Jones Run Independent Church and St. Johns Lodge #24 A.F.&A. M and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. The family will receive friends at Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St. Shinnston, on Friday from 1-8 PM.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 28th at 1:00 PM with his son, Pastor Dennis Napier officiating. Entombment will follow at the Shinnston Memorial Mausoleum. Online condolences can be extended to the family at www.
