John Gill McKay, Jr. May 28, 1928 – December 22, 2018 Share this obituary Local Florists Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card John Gill McKay Jr., at the age of 90, left this earth to join his beloved wife Ineze Gaulding McKay on Saturday, December 22, 2018. He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Lynn Mcfarland and sons, John Gill McKay III and Bruce Gaulding McKay. Granddaughters are Kate Elizabeth Sundin, Dr. Brooke Allison Green, Rebekah Ellen McKay and Olivia Arlynn McKay.

John was born May 28, 1928 in Richmond to John Gill McKay Sr. and Helen Sutherland McKay. His father passed when he was 13 years old and was then raised by his mother with sisters Helen and Ann in the section of the city known as Oregon Hill. He was very proud of that fact and of his service during WWII.

He joined the Marines in 1945 and after an honorable discharge returned to Richmond. Upon his return, during a trip to her families’ riding academy in Hanover Virginia, he met Ineze, the country girl that would later be his wife of over 50 years. After a brief time in Woodbridge, VA the couple returned to Hanover and settled in Mechanicsville to raise their three children.

They worshipped at Walnut Grove Baptist Church where John served as a deacon for a period of time. Later they attended Mechanicsville Christion Center. They lived on Cold Harbor Road until Ineze’s death in August of 1999.

John remained there until 2016 when he moved to The Crossings of Hanover and resided there until his passing. A good husband, father and proud Marine, he will be missed by his loved ones and friends alike. He will be buried at Walnut Grove beside his cherished wife.

A memorial service will be held in 2019 at a date to be announced later.
