Obituary for John “Jack” Welch John “Jack” Welch passed away early July 3, 2018 at St Ann Hospital after a brief illness surrounded by his family. He was born November 2, 1934 to Edward and Elizabeth Welch in Delaware, OH. Jack attended the old East grade school and graduated from St. Mary High School in 1952.

His first jobs were clerking at Kinsey’s Drug store and at McClellan’s Five and Dime. He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 at which time he stationed in Japan. Upon returning home he attended The Ohio State University and married Therese Frentsos, his wife for over 60 years.

Jack loved OSU football, NASCAR, camping throughout the US and later cruising and seeing the world. He worked for the State of Ohio as a tax auditor, Mansfield Tire and Rubber and after moving his family back to Columbus he was tax manager for SCOA Inc. In 1972 he became the first Chief for the State of Ohio income tax department under Governor Gilligan followed by General Auditor for SCOA Ind. He retired as a consultant for the Herbert Schiff Foundation.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Willian, Jerry and Bob and his sister Sharon Shappell. He is survived by his wife Therese Frentsos Welch, four children, Timothy of Houston, TX, J Andrew of Westerville, Eva and Betty of Gahanna, Pete and Lynn of Columbus and two grandchildren, two step grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday, July 6, 2018 from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. at the Robinson Funeral Home where a prayer service will be held at 2:00 P.M. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary Church with Father Michael Watson as Celebrant.
