John M Johansen , 95, passed away peacefully into the arms of His Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday March 20,2019. He was a resident of St Andrews in Boca Raton, Florida. John was born in Teaneck, NJ on August 10, 1923.

He was the youngest child of Johan and Ingeborg Johansen. Both of his parents were immigrants from Norway and at a young age they made their new lives in the U.S. His father was a dock worker in NY city and his mother made wedding gowns before she was married. John was preceded in death by both parents, 2 sisters Florence and Dagmar, and his brother Carl, his son-in-law Dale Kissinger, and his beloved wife of 62 years, Dorothy.

John graduated from Teaneck High School and earned his Master’s Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He served in the US Army Air Corps and he and Dorothy went on to have four children; JoAnn (Don) Purdy, Barbara (John) Van Wicklin, John (Judy) Johansen, and Deborah (Dale) Kissinger. He had 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

After the military he worked for Sears & Roebuck and spent the rest of his career working for Lever Brothers Company. He was a member of Teaneck and Montvale Free churches and after moving to Spectacular NY in 1986 he became active in the Grace Methodist Church. He was also on the board of Gospel Volunteers, Inc. John and Dorothy were avid Yankee fans and he loved the New York Giants.

His yard was a of great pleasure and he spent many hours on his mowing tractor keeping the lawn in line. A of great pride was the magnificent flower garden Dorothy planted and cared for. His Norwegian heritage greatly influenced his life and the lives of his many friends.

This connection lasted a lifetime and was passed on to their children and grandchildren. These traditions kept the Norwegian culture, humor and love of very strong coffee and cake alive and thriving. A graveside ceremony will be held in late spring at the convenience of the family and a luncheon will be held at the Inn for all who would care to come.

Memorial remembrances May be made to the Spectacular Volunteer Ambulance Corps . Both John and Dorothy appreciated the great care and kindness of the members of this organization. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Northville Funeral Home.
