Died Monday, July 16, 2018, at Advantage Living Center, Battle Creek. John was born on September 14, 1939, in Burton, MI, the son of John and Lena (Hanzaryk) Kaplan Sr He was a graduate of Holy Redeemer High School in 1957.

John was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1967. On October 19, 1968 he was united in marriage to the former Elizabeth “Betz” Fahey who survives. John was employed as a produce manager for Hamady Brothers from 1955 to 1991.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church (30-year St. John Vianney in Flint, MI) and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing with his children and the neighborhood kids. Surviving are his children, Helena (Lena)(David) Seiver, Houston, TX, John J. (Becky) Kaplan, Fenton, MI and Angela (Larry) Huntley of Thompsonville, MI; 4 grandchildren, sisters, Betty (Floyd) Butcher of Linden, MI, Mary (Roger) Lee of Swartz Creek, MI and brother, Bill (Pam) Kaplan of Grand Blanc, MI; a cousin, B.J. (Pat) Meagher.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jason in 1973. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6 to 8:00 p.m., at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 20, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Inurnment with full military honors will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Covenant House Michigan, 2959 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. , Detroit, MI 48208.
