Beverly – John Gilmore, formally of Manchester-by-the-sea, passed away on September 14, 2018 at the age of 91. John was born in Manchester by the Sea on April 22, 1927. And spent most of his life in Manchester.

John was a World War II veteran. In 1945 upon turning 18 in his senior year of high school, he enlisted in the Navy. Upon his discharge; John graduated from Gloucester High School in 1947.

He then attended Wentworth Institute of Technology and received his Associates Degree in 1949. … Read More » After graduating from Wentworth, John started working for the General Electric Company in Schenectady, NY, in June of 1951 he transferred to General Electric in Lynn, where he worked until his retirement in 1990. John was active for many years in Manchester Town Government having served in many positions; Selectman, Finance Committee member, Water and Sewer Commission and Cemetery Commission.

He was a member of Amaral Baily Post 113 and Knights of Columbus Council #1232. John is survived by his son, Mark Gilmore and his wife, Lori of Summerville, SC; his daughter, Jean Cassanos and her husband, Greg of Marblehead, his daughter, Ellen of Manchester by the Sea and his son-in-law, Thomas Prentiss of Essex. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Megan Olsen-Saville and her husband, Gary of Fairbanks, AK, Nathan Gilmore of Summerville, SC, Allyson Gilmore of Murrysville, PA and Olivia Prentiss of Wakefield.

John was preceded in death by his wife of fifty nine years, Catherine (O’Connor), his daughter, Anne Prentiss, his brother, Martin Gilmore, and his sisters, Mary Helming, Helen Yuill, Margaret Gilmore and Catherine Gilmore. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 62 School Street, Manchester by the Sea, on Monday September 24, 2018 at 11:00am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

There will be no visiting hours. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Manchester. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly.
