Obituary for John R. Barnes John Robert Barnes, of Evansville, loving husband and father of four children, passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 at the age of 45. John was born into the large and loving family of Leo V. and Doris (Elpers) Barnes on December 22, 1972 in Evansville. John attended St. James Grade School, was a 1991 graduate of Mater Dei High School and a graduate of Indiana State University, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
At Mater Dei, John excelled academically and athletically, as a leader in both football and wrestling. John grew up with a love of God, his country and his family. He was an Eagle Scout, a captain in the Air Force and a dedicated family man.
A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking. He loved to travel to see new things and make new memories. His friends and family will miss his fun loving spirit; vivid stories and his shoulder to lean on.
John loved nothing more than being with his children. Surviving John are his wife of 8 years, Claire (Salzer) Barnes; two daughters, Anna Barnes and Catherine Barnes; two sons, Ethan Barnes and Shepherd Barnes; his mother, Doris (Elpers) Barnes of Evansville; sisters, Kathy (Tony) Weis, Bev (Tom) Tison and Lisa (Keith) Reising; three brothers, Steve (Carleen) Barnes, Joseph (Tina) Barnes and Keith (Katie) Barnes and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his father, Leo V. Barnes in 2016 and by two infant brothers, Ronnie and Donnie Barnes.
There will be a Memorial Mass held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 19, 2018 at St. James Catholic Church in Haubstadt, Rev. Kenneth Betz officiating. Burial will follow in St. James Church Cemetery, where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.
Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 10:00 AM until service time on Friday at St. James Catholic Church.
