Obituary for John Viverito John Viverito, 73 of Eltingville, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018, at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City after his courageous battle with kidney disease. Born Friday, February 23, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Emma Viverito. He was the beloved husband of Lucille Viverito (nee Falco).

John and Lucille were married for 40 wonderful years. Together, they raised their daughter, Alissa. Of the many celebrations over their marriage, most recently John and Lucille celebrated John’s ”donor”versary.

Lucille was a match for John’s Kidney donation which took place on November 14, 2017. Just four days before his passing was their 6 month anniversary. John worked as a teacher at IS24 before retiring in 1979.

He enjoyed taking family vacations. Many vacations included trips to Florida and cruises. One of his favorite destinations was Disney World.

John was well known for his tan coloring during the summer. He always enjoyed being outdoors and taking the sun, whether in his backyard or on a beautiful beach. In his spare time, John liked to solve crossword puzzles, watch Star Trek and his favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees.

Years back, he enjoyed volunteering at the South Shore Babe Ruth Little League. Above all, John was a family man. His roles as husband and father always came first.

He adored his granddaughter Emma Rose and cherished the times they spent together. John is survived by his wife Lucille, his daughter, Alissa Viverito and her fiance Vincent DeAngelis, his granddaughter Emma Rose, sister Elaine Conti, cousin Michael DiMare. He was the fond brother in law to many and dear uncle to all his nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday June 23, at Holy Child Church located at 4747 Amboy Rd Staten Island, New York 10312. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to Give Kids The World Village.
