John Maxwell Rowntree, Jr., born October 9th, 1948, left this earthly life on October 27, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents John, Sr. and Mary Jane Rowntree. John was a lifelong Oklahoma City resident.

He attended Harding High School where he was elected President of the Student Body his senior year. After graduation he attended the University of Virginia for two years and later transferred to the University of Oklahoma, where he met his future wife, Nancy Fuller of Muskogee, and was President of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. After graduation John entered the University of Oklahoma School of Law where he earned a Juris Doctorate.

He was a successful trial lawyer for the next twenty years. He went on to practice oil and gas law with his father. For all his accomplishments his greatest pride and joy were his children, grandchildren and wife, Nancy, to whom he was happily married for 47 years.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Nick and wife Vesna and their children, Vido and Rion of Nassau, Bahamas; daughter, Paige Woolbright and husband Chad and their children, Allie and Whit of Tulsa; son, Lt. William and wife Amy and their children, Evie, James and Myers of Newport, Rhode Island; sister, Lisa Barrowman and husband Brett of Oklahoma City; brother-in-law, Nick Fuller and wife Laurie of Muskogee; and numerous cousins. John was a gentle man of few words, but when he had something to say everyone listened.

He was “The quiet voice of authority and sincerity in our family” and will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to A Chance to Change and the Mental Health Association of Oklahoma. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2018 at Nichols Hills United Methodist Church.
