Joseph Devail Butcher, affectionately known as “Joe D” graciously departed this earth on Saturday, April 14, 2018. He was born on October 22, 1952 in Monroe, LA. He is proceeded in death by his Grandmother Sarah Thompson “mama”, parents Roy Butcher Sr. and Penny Mae Butcher, Sister Benny Golden, and Brother Roy Butcher.

Lifelong friends Robert Jordan, Keith Neal, and Sam Wimbley, as well as a hosts of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Joe D was a resident of Columbus, Ohio for 62 years and a proud member of the Hilltop Community.

He graduated from Columbus West High School in 1972 and attended Columbus College of Art and Design. He also attended Culinary Art School where he learned and developed a passion for good food. Anyone who knew Joe D knew he was a master with his hands.

He founded his own construction company, B&B Construction, and worked as both Souse Chief and Master Chief in various restaurants around the city. He was employed by the City of Columbus and The Hilltop Civic Council. Joe D loved everything about the Hilltop and the Hilltop LOVED Joe D!

Affectionately referred to as “The Mayor of Whitethorne”, Joe was infamously known for his amazing “Goat Roast”. In his younger days, Joe was known to be very athletic, fashionable, and loved his family. He loved gardening, building things, and cooking.

Joe D Butcher was a strong man. He was never one to bite his tongue but was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Joe was an excellent provider to his family.

Joseph Devail Butcher, loved and admired. He will greatly be missed and forever cherished.
