Joseph Knopfelmacher, world traveler and collector, 95, of Manhattan, New York, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Sunrise Senior Living in Marlboro, NJ. Joseph was born on September 29, 1923 to Alexander and Caroline Knopfelmacher in Debrecen , Hungary. After immigrating to America, and attending Cooper Union, Joseph launched Craft Caravan with his wife, Margaret, in the Soho section of New York City, a retail / wholesale purveyor of African art and artifacts.

Joseph also proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II, between the years 1943- 1946. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, of 55 years, Margaret Harris Knopfelmacher in 2010. Joseph is survived by his two nieces, Margaret Goddard of Matawan, NJ, and Carolyn Marks and her husband Jeff ; and his great niece, Alyssa of Freehold, NJ.

Also surviving is his cousin Michael Soloman and his wife Priscilla, of Northport, NY; his sister-in-law, Judith Harris of Bradenton, FL; his niece Mary Grace Harris of Steep Falls, ME; and his nephew, Frank Harris and his wife Lisa of Bradenton, FL. Private services were provided to the family under the direction of Waitt Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Morganville, NJ. Online condolences can be given at www.
