MISSION – Joseph Ronald (Ron) Holzinger, born September 26, 1940 (age 78) passed away due to complications from pulmonary hypertension outside his second home in Mission, TX, on Sunday, 2/17/19 at 11:30 pm. He was born and raised in Peoria, resided in Creve Coeur, IL, for 50 years, and maintained a second home in Mission, TX for the past 5 years with his wife of 58 years, Patricia (Pat Mohr) Holzinger. Ron’s deepest passion in life were spending time with his surviving wife, Pat and their four children and their spouses: Teresa (James) Smolin of Long Beach, CA, Daniel (Lesa) Holzinger of Madison, IN, Cheryl (Anthony) Condo of Cypress, TX, Jennifer (Mark) Praul, North Peoria, IL, and his 7 grandchildren Lyndsey (Zach) Razor of Indianapolis, IN, Laurin Holzinger of Indianapolis, IN, Alec, Jacey and Brice Condo of Cypress, TX, Dani (Grant) Evans (Washington, IL) and Alex (Jeremiah) Ratliff (Calhoun, KY).

He also deeply loved spending time with the families of his survived sister Pamela (Louis) Tomlianovich of Peoria and brother Mark (Cindy) Holzinger of Middletown, IN. Ron was preceded in death by his parents. Ron was an avid sports enthusiast actively engaged in in the sports community surrounding the Peoria area for more than 30 years as an umpire and basketball referee.

He was a committed Chicago Cub fan for 78 years through thick and thin. He retired from Caterpillar as a heat treat specialist at the East Peoria plant, in 2001 after 30 years of service at age 60. He was a member of the UAW 974.

He drove the school bus for the Sports events for EPCHS after his retirement. He also worked for the Meat Cutters Associations in the early 1970s. Ron was a 1958 graduate of Spalding Institute in Peoria, Illinois.

He never met a stranger, and the room always brightened with laughter and kindness in his presence. He always had a special name for you and was known as Uncle Ronda to his many nieces and nephews. A private mass was held in his honor at Our Lady-Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission, Texas.

A Catholic mass is scheduled for Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 10:30 am at St Anthony’s Catholic Church, Bartonville, IL, followed by an open Remembrance Reception at St. Anthony’s Parish Hall at 11:30 to share memories and stories in celebration of his life with family, friends, and colleagues.
