Joseph A. Sharkey, Beloved Son, Brother and Uncle Joseph A. Sharkey passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 25, 2018. Born in New York City on July 26, 1967, Joe moved with his family to Mountainside, NJ at the age of four. Throughout his childhood Joe was a familiar sight around town, particularly at the community pool during the summer months.

He graduated from the Marie H. Katzenbach School for the Deaf in 1988. With a smile that would light up a room, Joe was a bright presence and a dear friend to many. He embraced life fearlessly, armed with a keen sense of humor and generous compassion.

Joe cherished his large extended family, and especially treasured his role as uncle to his niece and nephew. Joe is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Francesca and Paul Moum, his nephew Brian, and niece Kelsey of Westfield, NJ. He was preceded in death by his devoted parents, Edward and Tina Sharkey.

Visitation will be at Higgins & Bonner Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Avenue, Westfield on Friday, June 1, from 4 to 8 pm. A private service will follow at a later date.
