Joyce’s Obituary Joyce Arlene Starkey of Ashton passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Tuesday, January 22, 2019. She was 86. She was born the eldest of two daughters to Russell and Clesant Kanouse on June 8, 1932 in Ashton, Michigan.

On November 20, 1948 she was married to Cameron Starkey and they were blessed with six children. Joyce was an active member of the Ashton United Methodist Church. She loved helping in the church and in the community and always enjoyed helping others until her deteriorating health prevented it.

She loved spending time with family, laughing and always wearing a smile on her face. She was an animal lover and enjoyed spending time outdoors enjoying all of creation around her. She was the most loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend; always thinking of others ahead of herself.

To know her was to love her and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful help and care given by Hospice of Michigan. Joyce’s beautiful life will forever be cherished by her children: Cindy (Randy) Peterson, Jerry Starkey and Kevin (Alicia) Starkey; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; sister, Linda (Dale) Ruppert; numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 55 years, Cameron Starkey; children, Connie Stephens, John Starkey, and Debra Higley; and grandchildren Rick Fulmerhouser, and Steven Higley II. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Pruitt-Livingston Funeral Home in Reed City. Burial will follow at the Ashton Cemetery.
