Joyce’s Obituary Joyce Lundquist, born December 27, 1936 was a strong-willed woman. She was raised on her family farm with Jewel and Virginia Oursland along with her siblings, Robert, Allen, John, Dolores and Maryanne. Joyce spent her time cooking with her mother and helping her family process turkeys brought to them by the neighboring farmers.

She attended High School in Wakonda, South Dakota and some college at the University of South Dakota. Joyce and Marshall Lundquist met after his service in Korea, returning to his family farm. They married and settled in Clay County on their own farm.

They had a trucking business, raised cattle and farmed the land. They were active in Alsen American Legion, and Joyce continued active in Ladies Auxiliary. The Lundquist family were members of the Dalesburg Lutheran Church.

She and Marshall raised 3 children, Wayne, Michael and Heather. They were actively involved with the children in Church, 4-H and even served as chaperones on High School Band trips. After Marshall’s death, Joyce managed to maintain the farm, raising Heather and later her grandson Sam.

She started Rainbow Studios, a photography business which she was self-taught. Joyce became involved with local singles and formed a group that would go to dinner, dance and even hosted parties at her farm as a way to bring single individuals together. At one event the singles group traveled to Branson, Missouri where Joyce met Jim Myer, an Illinois farm owner.

This relationship has lasted these last 20 years. They would travel and winter in Mesa, AZ and alternate visits at each other’s farms in the summers. She had her share of health challenges, including several bouts with cancer.

She was taken from us early Tuesday morning November 13, 2018 during her treatment at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, AZ as she was fighting cancer one last time. Joyce’s nephew Jimmy Walker, Joyce’s sister Dolores and husband Carlos and niece Peggy Anne Oursland were with her in the hospital. Joyce’s sons Wayne and Michael were at her side for her final conversation and jokes.

Joyce is survived by her sons: Wayne Lundquist of San Antonio, Texas and children Ross, Rondi and Andrew (Andrew’s wife Erin and great grandson Cyrus Jack). Michael Lundquist of Sioux Falls and Los Angeles, Ca. and children Hans, Per, Annika and Kirsten.

Also surviving are her brother, John Oursland of Santa Monica, CA and two sisters, Delores Alonso and her husband Carlos of Phoenix, AZ and Mary Anne Poe and her husband Eddie of Staten Island, NY. She was preceded in death by her husband Marshall, daughter Heather Lundquist, her grandson Samson “Sam” Lundquist, and two brothers, Robert and John Oursland. Please join Joyce’s family in celebration of her life.
