Obituary for Joyce Marie Chitty Joyce Marie Chitty, 71, of Red Wing, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018, at her home after a short battle with cancer, with her family by her side. She was born November 21, 1946, in Marshalltown, Iowa to John and Dorothy (Cizek) Popelka. She grew up on a farm outside of Toledo, Iowa which is where she attended school and graduated from in 1964.
On January 11, 1964, Joyce was married to Terry Eugene Chitty at a Catholic church outside of Clutier, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with 4 children, Laura, John, Jeff and Lisa. Joyce worked for several years at a CPA firm in Tama, Iowa.
The family moved to Red Wing in 1980 and she worked at the Prairie Island Nuclear Plant until she retired in 2004. She was on the Board for United Way and at the Red Wing Golf Club where she was very active. Joyce enjoyed fishing and golfing, just cruising the river, reading books and watching football.
She liked to go out to eat—Wiederholt’s was her favorite! Joyce is survived by her son, Jeff (Sonya) Chitty; daughter, Lisa (Kurt) Niederloh; daughter-in-law, Shannon Chitty; sisters, Diane Bradley and Marcia Allan; sister-in-law, Sandra Lenning; significant other, Tom Zibble and his daughters, Amy (Josh) Meinen and family and Andrea Zibble; 9 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry in 2000; her parents; brother, Donald Popelka; daughter, Laura Goranson; son, John Chitty and a grandson, Connor Chitty.
Mass of the resurrection will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
