Obituary for Joyce Hassell (Zumwalt) Joyce Hassell, age 86, of Nixon, passed away July 17, 2018 in San Antonio. She was born in Harwood, Texas on April 22, 1932, to Earl and Vicie Mary (Flynn) Zumwalt. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam J. Hassell on September 18, 2004; and a brother, Wade Zumwalt.

She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Nixon, a member of the UMW and was active in the Nixon Chamber of Commerce. Joyce is survived by her children: Gary Hassell of Nixon, Sue Ann Mikulenka of Llano, and Mark Hassell and wife Gracie of Carrizo Springs; her grandchildren: Cody and wife Jessica of Anderson, TX, Kelli and husband Clay of Weimar, Tyler of Nixon, Shane and wife Kelly of Wesley Chapel, FL, Hillary of New Braunfels, Beth and husband Trey of Universal City, Caitlin and husband Allen of Batesville, TX; her great-grandchildren: Addison, Dillon, Natalie, Emma, Mason, Avery, Owen, Emma, Sloane, Tristin, Britton, Wyatt, Walker, and a great-grandchild due to be born in September; her sister, Judy Pekar of Gonzales; brothers: Bubba Zumwalt of Yoakum; Bobby Zumwalt of Brazoria; James Zumwalt of Nixon; her long-time companion, Aubrey Steubing; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as other loving family and many friends. A Visitation will be held Thursday, July 19, 2018, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon.

The Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 20, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon, with Pastor Rhonda Troll officiating. Burial will follow at the Nixon. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 20, Nixon, TX 78140.
