Julia’s Obituary Julia Soles Mathews, 89, of Nichols passed away Thursday, March 28, 2019 at MUSC Florence Medical Center. She was born in Nichols on January 19, 1930, a daughter of the late Trony “B.L.” and Nina Morris Soles. Prior to her illness, she enjoyed quilting and sewing.

When her health permitted, she loved making wood crafts, painting, and decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas. She would fill her yard full of decorations at Christmas for the public to enjoy. She loved her family, friends and all of the fur babies she ever had.

She has taken care of many family members in their time of need and given them the love and care they needed. In addition to her parents, Julia was predeceased by her first husband, Jack Huggins, her second husband, Needham Housand, and her late husband, Harold D. Mathews. She is survived by two children, Danny Huggins (Mavis) of Bayboro and Debbie Housand of Nichols; two grandchildren, Michele Strickland (Ervin) of Green Sea and Lloyd Huggins (Ginger) of Conway, and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Strickland of Green Sea.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Riverside Cemetery in Nichols with Reverend Stephen Vipperman officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. Julia is in the care of Meares Funeral Home of Mullins.

The family would like to thank Shannon King, Jean Strickland, Janice Baxley, Eula Thomas, E.J. and Helen King, and Benny Rogers for their assistance during this very difficult time. If you would like to remember Julia, the family suggests that memorials be made in her memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29605 or to arthritis research.
