MADISON- June Groehler, age 61, of Madison, drove her 69 Camaro through heaven’s gates, with total disregard last Thursday morning, June 7, 2018, with her wife, Julie holding her in her arms. The world was blessed with her presence on April 12, 1957, to Evelyn and Elmer Groehler, in Watertown, Wis. To her teachers delight, she graduated from Watertown Senior High in 1975.

You may have known June from her dry cleaning business or when she zipped around in her Fed Ex delivery truck. In 2001, June… Read More » became a Madison Police Officer and that’s when her entire world changed. Serving her community and those she worked with was her focus.

While there are simply too many awards to mention, June was very proud of being president of the Wisconsin Association of Women Police. She received awards for teaching from Madison Technical College and Harvard University for Innovation in American Government. June was the founder of the council for Cyber Safety for Children and was later contacted by the white house to learn about this program.

Through her hard work, drive and tenacity, June was promoted to Sergeant in 2007 and Lieutenant in 2011. Since she didn’t think she was busy enough, she decided to get two more degrees! She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration from Upper Iowa University and her Masters from Boston College in Criminal Justice.

While working, serving, mentoring and devoting herself to the Madison Police Department, June also taught at Madison, Upper Iowa and ITT colleges. Her passion and devotion were so evident that she will always be remembered as a true “Blue Blood”. June was loved and adored by her wife, Julie Maslowski.

She leaves two loving brothers, Gerry (Carmen) and Jim (Debbie). She had five nieces, Jaclyn Phillips, Leanne Anthon, Lynley Gray, Lillian Lueck and Danielle Iglesias; and ten great nieces and nephews. June quickly became a member of the family to the Maslowski’s.

She is also survived by Pat and Bette Maslowski (mother and father-in-law); brothers-in-law, Roy (Dorothy), Randy (Mary) and Rick (Cheryl); sisters-in-law, Jayne Ritter and Jan Rowe (Scott Smith); and her amazing friends, Pat Fowle, Jane Stolkasa, Pam James and Traci Jokala. She was preceded in death by both parents; a sister, Joyce; and a brother, Ronnie. It’s hard to say which she loved more, being a Police Officer, her Rottweilers, Gretta and Stella, a great steak, her Camaros, or Julie.

I guess we’ll never know. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 4 p.m., on Wednesday, June 13, 2018. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
