Obituary of Kathleen McClenahan Kathleen Ellen McClenahan passed away at her home December 15, 2018 at the age of 92. Kathleen was born in LaGrande, Oregon- November 20, 1926 to Lester G. and Samantha Hamilton. The Hamilton’s soon moved to Nampa, Idaho where Lester began his own jewelry business: Lester Hamilton Jewelers.

Kathleen was reared in Nampa. She attended Nampa schools graduating from Nampa High School in 1944. She went on to college at University of Washington where she graduated in 1948 with a degree in Interior Design.

She later attended Boise State College taking courses in education and library sciences. Kathleen spent many years teaching in the elementary grades and was an acting school librarian all within the Boise School district. Kathleen married Kenneth Raymond McClenahan in 1957.

They were married until Kenneth’s death in 1994. As a result of Kenneth’s illness and battle with multiple sclerosis, Kenneth and Kathleen chose not to have children, but spent their married life loving and caring for their many nieces and nephews. Kathleen was a strong advocate for reading, one of the classes she taught.

She loved reading and sharing books with her sisters, her book club and friends at her church, especially a good mystery or history. She was a diligent backer of public television and the arts. She was also a long time member of her PEO chapter.

She had a lifelong love for the Boise Philharmonic. She was an active long standing member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Boise, Idaho. Kathleen will be greatly missed, but long remembered for her generosity and love of family and friends.

She had a keen sense of humor and will be fondly remembered for her exuberant laugh. She is fondly remembered by many for her positive attitude and ready smile. She loved to bake and cook; her 4th of July meals were classic.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Bobby and her three sisters, JoAnn, Faith and Betty. A memorial service will be held in March of 2019. She was well known for her philanthropy so memorial contributions may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church in Boise, ID or a charity of your choice.
