Kenneth Edison Crawford, age 86, of Cumberland passed away June 2, 2018 in Southeastern Medical Center in Cambridge. His happy heart said it was time to be with our Lord. He was born November 3, 1931 in Fayetteville, Arkansas and graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arkansas in 1960.
Ken was in the US Navy 1951-1955 during the Korean Conflict and with his security clearance was an aviation electronics technician aboard the aircraft carrier, USSN Coral Sea. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Edison and Ollie Mae (Neunam) Crawford; and two brothers, Charles Eugene and James Leland Crawford. He has one brother still living, Robert Gerald Crawford of Michigan.
Kenneth married Barbara Lee Luman on August 10, 1952 in London Mills, Ill. They enjoyed 65 wonderful fun filled years together. They have 2 children, Vicki Lee Crawford and Richard D. (LaJoy) Crawford; 3 Grandchildren, Jennifer Lee Dyko, Angela Marie (Robert) Rose and Scott Richard (Alison) Crawford; 3 Great Grandchildren, Robert Alan Rose, Adela Jo and Nicholas Scott Crawford.
Ken has been a part time farmer in the Cumberland area since moving to Ohio. He retired from SE Medical Center as Director of Operations, was a professor at Muskingum Area Technical College (Zane State College), worked for Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville, NCR of Cambridge, as an Electrician building the Big Muskie, at McGraw Edison in Zanesville, at RCA in Cambridge, at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico and in North Carolina as an Electrical Engineer Radar Specialist. Prior to his college degree worked for Caterpillar in Moline, Illinois.
Kenneth’s Masonic History: Became a member of Farmington Lodge #192 in 1959, transferred to Cumberland #134 in 1967 then merged with Point Pleasant #360. Joined Scottish Rite in 1961 and enjoyed working the many degrees especially the 20th. He was a Worshipful Master in 1969, District Deputy Grand Master of 23rd District in 1989, High Priest in Royal Arch Masons in 1982, Illustrious Master or Royal and Select Masons #11 in 1992, Eminent Commander in Cyrene #10 in Zanesville in 1987, Associate Grand Prelate in Grand Commandery of Ohio in 2005 and has received 50 pins in 3 chapters.
He is also a Knight of the York Rite Cross of Honor. He joined the Ohio Eastern Star in 1973 with his wife, Barbara, and together they have been very active in Guernsey Chapter #211 and past members of The Zanes and Janes Square Dance Club. Kenneth enjoyed traveling, visiting with his family and going fishing, especially with his grandson.
Ken has been a member of the United Methodist Church of Cumberland for over 50 years where he was a Sunday school teacher and Trustee. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cumberland United Methodist Church. Masonic Services will begin at 8 pm on Tuesday at the Cumberland United Methodist Church, with OES Services to follow the Masonic Services.
Visitations will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Cumberland United Methodist. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, June 6 with Pastor Keith Taylor officiating. He will be laid to rest in Cumberland Cemetery with full military honors provided by The US Navy Color Guard and the Guernsey County Veterans Council and his Granddaughter, Angela Rose will be playing Taps.
