KIMBERLY JANINE SEVER BUCHANAN, age 51, of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018 at her home. She was born on December 2, 1966 in Fairfield, California. She was a 1985 graduate of Miami Trace High School where she was active in the band and color guard.

Kimberly later graduated from Spencerian School of Nursing in Louisville. She retired in 2017 from the Bullitt County Public School where she had worked as a school nurse. Kimberly was deeply rooted in her faith with Jesus Christ; she went on mission trips to Africa and also volunteered with youth groups in Kentucky.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband, helping others, and being with her family. Kimberly was preceded in death by her father, James W. Sever; paternal grandparents, Guido and Beth Risso; maternal grandparents, Wayne and Delores Cunningham; and sister-in-law, Donna Buchanan. Survivors include her mother, Marilyn Cunningham Sever; her husband, R. Brian Buchanan, whom she married on March 8, 1986; children, Ashley (Jonathan) McCoy of Campbellsville, Kentucky, and Daniel (Rachel) Buchanan of Shepherdsville, Kentucky; siblings, David Sever, and Jamie (Jeremy) Etzler, both of Washington CH; aunts, Dorothy Ream, and Illeen Cunningham; mother-in-law, Phyllis Horney; sister-in-law, Kristen (David) McDowell of Westerville; brother-in-law, Todd Buchanan; and nieces and nephews, Abigail, Samantha, Megan, Charles, Austin, Justin, Albany, Ellie, Alex, TJ, Todd Jr., and Shawn.

Also surviving are several cousins and a host of friends. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 1-3:00 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home. In keeping with Kimberly’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
