LaDon’s Obituary LaDon Henderson Cross departed his earthly home on Friday, January 11, 2019, at his home after a brief illness. He was born June 4, 1952, in Cairo, Illinois to the union of Bennie L. Cross, SR. and Merriel L. Henderson Cross.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and one brother Bennie L. Cross, Jr. LaDon accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in 1966 at First Missionary Baptist Church 12th Street, by the late Reverend Sherman J. Jones. He united with Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, Cairo, Illinois. He attended the Cairo Public School System and graduated with honors from Cairo High School in 1970.

He continued his education at Murray State University, Murray Kentucky, majoring in History and minoring in Sociology and received a Bachelor of Science in 1974. While at Murray State University, he became a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. He returned to Murray State in 1975 pursuing a Graduate Degree.

On July 19, 1977, LaDon was united in Holy Matrimony to Yvonne Hayes. To this union was born a daughter, Vanessa. LaDon taught one year at Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas, Helena, Arkansas.

He also worked at the Alexander/ Pulaski County Mental Health for a number of years as a Counselor with the Sila Program. LaDon retired in 2014 from Alexander County Probation Office, where he was employed over 20 years. He loved reading and studying history.

His hobbies included fishing, cooking, shooting pool, collecting watches and stamps. He was a die heart fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Los Angeles Lakers and George Clinton of Parliament-Funkadelic. LaDon leaves to cherish his Memory and Legacy one daughter, Vanessa (John) Sadler, Spring Hill, TN.

, three grandchildren: Justice Sadler, Josiah Sadler and Jiren Sadler. One brother; David (Mary Lynn) LaGrone, Buffalo, New York, two sisters; Iolar Henderson, McKinney, Texas and Rosemary Cross-Robinson, Cairo, Illinois. Four special nephews: Joe (Angela) Coleman, Cairo, IL.

, Amondo (Kimberly) Coleman, Dallas, TX. , Christopher (Felecia) Montgomery, Kansas City, Missouri and Lorenzo Brooks, Charlotte, North Carolina, four special nieces: Beverly (Kenneth) Bland, Dallas, Texas, Permemphya Coleman, Mount Laurel, New Jersey, Recynthia Henderson Jones, Mount Laurel, New Jersey and Dana N. Cross, Cape Girardeau, Missouri. LaDon also leaves two uncles: Willie Cross and Levelle Cross both of Forrest City, Arkansas, one aunt; Emma Cross Bell , Chicago, Illinois and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday January 26, 2019 at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Cairo, IL. Friends may call from 11:00am until 12:00pm. Memorial service will begin at 12:00pm with Bishop Paul Jones officiating, Rev.

Jimmy Ellis Pastor. Arrangements were Entrusted to Massie Funeral Home in Mounds, IL.
