LaVonne Mae Jensen, 82, of Reinbeck, passed away on April 26 at the Allen Memorial Hospital while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 1st at the First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck with Reverend Randy Russom officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family to be donated to a cause of their choosing at a later date. French-Hand Funeral Home is taking care of LaVonne and her family. Online condolences may be made at www.

abelsfuneralhomes.com LaVonne Mae Jensen was born on January 7, 1936 in Blackhawk County to her parents Frank and Matilda (Horstman) Karkosh. LaVonne attended Dinsdale High School graduating with the class of 1953. LaVonne then went on to attend the Iowa Teachers College and taught elementary level education for a few years.

LaVonne was united in marriage to Delbert Jensen on November 11, 1956 in Garwin, IA, later ending in Delbert’s passing in 1986. LaVonne worked as a dietary aide at Parkview Manor for over 18 years along with being a stay-at-home mom. LaVonne enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was proud of her 3 sons Craig, Kirk, and Chad and their accomplishments, including their Eagle Scout awards.

LaVonne enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and spending time with them individually whenever she got the opportunity. LaVonne especially enjoyed playing board games with them, even when she didn’t win, which was more often than she would have liked. LaVonne enjoyed spending time with her friends at church and was a proud member of the First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck.

LaVonne also enjoyed gardening and her favorite flowers were pink carnations. LaVonne loved visiting with people, even if they were complete strangers, and especially when she was at Culvers. LaVonne was known to go to Culvers and get a Scoopie meal and spend time speaking with people she hadn’t met before in her life.

LaVonne is survived by her loving sons Craig (Dayna) Jensen of Greenfield, IA, Kirk (Judy) Jensen of Spirit Lake, IA, and Chad (Angie) Jensen of Carroll, IA; grandchildren Heath (Charity) Jensen of Cedar Rapids, Allison (David) Arendt of North Liberty, Adam Jensen of West Des Moines, Emily (Andy) Butterworth of Altoona, Megan (Luke) Donnenwerth of Spirit Lake, Tyler (Brette) Jensen of Cedar Falls, Austin Jensen of Carroll, and Reed Jensen of Carroll; great grandchildren Cole and Etta Donnenwerth with one more on the way, and Caleb, Charlie, and Miles Butterworth; sister Marcia (Bob) Ketter. LaVonne is preceded in death by her parents, husband Delbert, and her sisters Marlys and Barbara.
