Lester J. Auxier, 44, of Madison, Indiana died June 29, 2018 at Kentuckiana Medical Center of complications surrounding congestive heart failure. Lester was such a blessing to all who knew him. He will be missed beyond what words can tell.
He was born May 27, 1974 to Patsy Smith Craig and Charles Ulner in Madison, Indiana. Lester was a 1992 graduate of Southwestern High School where he participated in Marching Band, Concert Band, Choir, Drama Club and Academic Super Bowl. He Attended the University of Evansville and joined Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.
During college he began working part time for King’s Daughter’s Hospital Emergency Medical Services, and eventually made EMS his full time career. In 1997 he joined the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Reserves and served as a reserve Officer under three Sheriffs. In 2004 he earned his Paramedic certification through Fayette Memorial Hospital in Connersville, Indiana.
He continued to serve the residents of Jefferson and Scott County in Emergency Medical Services until illness made him unable to continue. Lester was preceded in death by his grandparents; Lester James and Katherine Dean Smith of New Washington, IN and Joel and Shirley Jackson Auxier of Landers, CA; aunts Judy Smith Reed of Hanover, IN; Paula Auxier Buhrman of Hermison, OR and Uncle Lewis Reed of Hanover, IN. Lester enjoyed reading, watching movies, target shooting, photography, attending concerts or live music, and spending time with family, as well as friends that were like a second family to him.
He is survived by his mother, Patsy Craig, of Madison, IN; brother and sister in law, Joel and Jessica Auxier of Indianapolis, IN; aunts and uncles Roger and Elaine Smith of Lexington, IN, Tony and Patti Berger of Temecula, CA, Patrick and Tina Hernandez of Huntington Beach, CA, and Tracy and Donna Auxier of Irvine, CA; Step father Mark Auxier; and several cousins and close friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 6, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at the First Christian Church of Hanover with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery in New Washington, IN. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and after 11:00 A.M. Friday until time of service at the church.
