Lewis D. Strickland III, 56, a resident of Aperion Care, East Moline, formerly of Rock Island, died Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the care center. Services will be held at a later date. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family.

Memorials may be made to Beacon of Hope Hospice. Lewis was born May 31, 1962 in Rock Island, a son of Lewis Strickland Jr. and Heddy Butler Strickland. He married Maxine Russell on June 5, 1991 in Waukegan, Illinois.

Lewis attended Rock Island High School, where he enjoyed running track and playing basketball. He served in the U.S. Army and had worked for JJ Roofing Co. Survivors include his wife, Maxine; and daughter, Jatara Strickland, both of Milwaukee; grandchildren Malachi, Caleb and Neveah; sisters and brothers, Teresa (Julius) Thornton, Rock Island, Anthony (Ute) Strickland, Germany, Darrayl (Lynn) Strickland, North Carolina, Terry Strickland, LeClaire, Carolyn (Michael) Harris, Texas and Stacey (Kevin) Thomas, California; special friend, Candid Rhodes; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Troy Strickland.
