Lillian’s Obituary Lillian Constance DeKrey, 94, Velva, ND, passed away Monday, May 20, 2019, at Souris Valley Care Center, Velva, ND. Lillian was born May 29, 1924, the third of nine children to Charles and Lillian Ellna (Rossing) DeKrey, on a farm south of Pettibone, ND. Lillian attended grade school at Weiser #2 School and graduated in 1944 from Steele High School in Steele, ND, both in Kidder County.

Her mother died when she was 12 and she lived at home until her brothers and sisters grew up and her father remarried. She worked one year in the Register of Deeds office of Kidder County at Steele, ND. In 1945, she moved with her family to Velva, and went to work for Verendrye Electric.

She filled various positions and did the accounting from 1949 until her retirement in 1982, after 37 years. In 1984, she began part time work for Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva and continued until 2006 after 22 years. Lillian was very active in the Velva community, She was a member and secretary of the Velva Community Development Corporation for 20 years, a director on the Velva Clinic Board for 20 years, the Velva City Assessor for six years and served on the Velva City Zoning Commission, the Velva Paving Commission and the Velva Planning Commission.

Lillian was a member of the Velva United Methodist Church, where she served as Lay Leader, Lay delegate to conference, Sunday School teacher, organist for eight years, president of the Methodist Women and treasurer of the United Methodist Women Quilters. She was a 63-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and was treasurer for over 40 years. Lillian was also treasurer for Souris Valley Care Center Volunteers in Velva since December of 1983.

Her hobbies included sewing, quilting and oil painting. Lillian married Rev. Adine Harsch on October 8,1998 .

They made their home in Velva. Surviving family includes: Husband, Rev Adine Harsch, Velva, stepchildren, Dennis (Kym) Harsch, West Fargo, ND, Clayton (Nancy) Harsch, West Fargo and Kendall (Laurie) Harsch, Sioux Falls, SD; eight step grandchildren, and seven step great-grandchildren; brother, Charles R. (Ruth Anne) DeKrey, Willow Springs, MO; sisters, Florence E. Hieggelke, Fargo, ND; 16 nieces and nephews, 34 grandnieces and grandnephews, 17 great grandnieces and grandnephews. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lillian Ellna DeKrey, stepmother, Grace Reed DeKrey, brother, John A. DeKrey; sisters, Ellna R. DeKrey, Elaine P. Luehr, Iris J. Luehr, Joyce G. Sutherland Hasle, and step-sister, Genevieve Reed Lee.

Funeral: Friday, May 24, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva, ND. Interment: Velva Community Cemetery, Velva, ND.
