Lional’s Obituary Obituary Lional Dee Chapman, 83 Lional Dee Chapman, 83, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away January 10, 2019 at the Gables surrounded by his family. A true Yankee Doodle Dandy, he was born July 4, 1935 in Thomas Idaho. He was the second of four children born to Samuel Lional Chapman and Leelia Jeanetta Turpin Chapman.
Later, Dee would gain a beloved stepfather, Ben Martin, and shortly after that a dearly loved stepmother, Opal Chapman. With those additions came a stepbrother and a half brother and sister. Dee spent his entire life in Blackfoot, never moving more than 10 miles from his birthplace.
Dee married the love of his life, Roxie Dolores Willey in the Idaho Falls Temple on November 24, 1954. Together, they raised seven beautiful children. Dee was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including working at the temple with his dear wife, but he will best be remembered for his faithful service as an extraordinary home teacher.
Dee will always be known as a hard worker. He was not afraid of long hours or demanding physical labor. He worked several different jobs, often two at a time to provide for his family.
After retiring from Kraft Foods, Dee enjoyed going to the Blackfoot Swimming Pool each day where he logged several thousand miles swimming and walking. He made friends everywhere he went with his cheerful smile and friendly personality. The thing he enjoyed most was spending time with his family.
The last 4 years of his life were spent at the Gables assisted living facility. As was his pattern, he touched many lives there, and even became the smiling face seen on their billboards and brochures. His family is most grateful for the loving care he received from the staff at the Gables and the hospice team during his final days.
Dee is survived by his seven children: Trina (Butch) DeForest of Blackfoot, Cindy (Craig) Atwood of Blackfoot, Blake Chapman of Burley, Perry (Diane) Chapman of Blackfoot, Brent (Sheri) Chapman of Blackfoot, Tonia (Rolland) Allen of Twin Falls, and Wendy (Ryan) Southwick of Kanab Utah; a brother, Gaylen Chapman of West Valley, Utah, a sister Jeanet Reinhart of Nampa, a brother Cleon (Dixie) Chapman of Blackfoot, and a sister, Deon (Charles) Ulrich of Blackfoot and a step brother Gary (Marta) Martin. Also surviving are 29 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren with more on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepparents, his loving wife, Roxie, his older sister Denise, two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. Family will meet with friends Friday evening, January 18, 2019 from 6 until 8 o’clock and again one hour prior to services. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.
