Obituary for Lola Mae Rogers LOLA MAE ROGERS Lola Mae Rogers, born April 9, 1933 in Marquez, Texas to Robert Spurling and Liza Jones Spurling, passed away on April 10, 2018 at the age of 85. In 1950, Lola graduated from Madisonville Colored High School. In November of 1951, Lola moved to San Antonio, TX where she received her diploma from Hicks Beauty School.

She continued to further her education by attending the nursing program at St. Philip’s College. She received her vocational nursing degree and began her career at Baptist Memorial Hospital. For over the next 20 years, Lola continued her passion of nursing at Santa Rosa Hospital until she eventually retired…anxiously awaiting the day she became a grandmother!

In 1969, Lola married Shelby Lee Rogers. To this union, two children were born, Mark Christopher Rogers and wife Erin, and Shelby Rogers II and wife Kimberly. Lola was most proud of her six grandchildren: Brittnee Rogers, Lauryn A. Rogers, Shelby Rogers III, Kamryn Griffin, Jayden Rogers, and Jaxon Rogers.

She was preceded in death by three sisters: Elnora Byrd, Jackie Harrell and Lena Mae Jackson. She is also survived by a sister, Willie Florence Moseley; and brothers, Tem McClendon and Joe Spurling. A Memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South followed by entombment at Mission Park South Mausoleum.
