Mr. Lon Whaley, Sr., age 102, of Oneida, Tennessee, went to join his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 26, 2018, at his home surrounded with love by all of his children, some grandchildren and special caregiver. Born July 3, 1916, in Sevier Co., TN. to the late Issac Whaley and Betty (Grey) Whaley.

He was a young father when he gave his life to the Lord and served Him until the day of his death. With going to work in the logging camps at the ripe old age of 8, he didn’t receive a “proper” education but that didn’t stop him from reading his bible, studying God’s word and teaching his children the most important lessons they would need in their lives. On June 30, 1985, Lon was ordained as Deacon of New Haven Baptist Church along with his son, Larry.
After serving as Deacon there for many years, he then served as Deacon at Black Oak Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 78 years, Edith; one daughter, Charlene; two grandchildren, Terry Martin Stonecipher and Danna Louise Ballard; one great grandson, Isiah Ewell Phillips; special daughter-in-law, Donna Whaley; special grandson-in-law and care giver, Scott Terry. He is survived by his two sons, Larry Whaley and wife Linda Ellen, Lon Whaley, Jr. both of Oneida; five daughters, Joan Stonecipher of Naples, Florida, Shirley and husband Clifton Terry of Oneida, Johnnie Schenck of West Chester, Ohio, Linda Phillips and husband Roy Lee of Oneida, and Pat and husband Roy Trent of Knoxville, TN; Eighteen grandchildren; Forty-Five great grandchildren; Eighteen great great grandchildren; special long term care givers, Decie Buttram, Bobbie Debord, Zach Phillips, Rita Yancey, Brandi McCater, John Mee, and the U.T Hospice; several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 P.M. until time of funeral service at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday evening, October 30, 2018, at the Black Oak Baptist Church with Bro. Kyle Keeton, Bro. Robert King, and Bro.
Crestin Burke officiating. Music will be provided by family and friends. Entombment service will be at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday morning, October 31, 2018 in the Carson Memorial Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be deacons of the church and grandsons. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to: Pat Summit Alzheimer’s Research or Black Oak Baptist Church 478 Craighead Street 4911 Coopertown Rd.
