Obituary for Lorraine Kaiser It was just after noon on Friday, June 29, 2018 that Lorraine (Muggli) Kaiser passed away peacefully at her home. She was born the fifth of ten children to Joseph and Barbara (Schmidt) Muggli on August 30, 1921 at Forsyth, Montana, at which time her family resided in Rosebud, Montana, where her father worked at the bank. When he purchased a farm in the Yellowstone Valley, he relocated his growing family to Miles City where Lorraine attended Kircher School and graduated from Custer County High School in 1939.
Lorraine pursued a career in nursing earning a Registered Nurse diploma from Holy Rosary Hospital at Miles City in 1942. After working in Spokane, Washington and Wallace, Idaho, she enrolled in the anesthesia program at the University of Minnesota Hospitals in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she graduated in 1944 with her certification as a Registered Nurse-Anesthetist (CRNA). She returned to Miles City and provided anesthesia services at both Holy Rosary and the V.A. Hospitals.
She married Charles Kaiser, Jr. in October of 1946 and continued her CRNA profession until they started their family of five children. As their family out-grew the house where they lived which was Charlie’s parents residence, Lorraine and Charlie used their combined talents to construct a new home on the property. They welcomed the assistance of family members and close friends on this project which was completed in May of 1955.
Eventually they moved the old house across the street and with the help of all the kids remodeled it into a three apartment rental unit. Lorraine said that she didn’t wear house dresses as something was always “under construction around here”. Throughout the years Lorraine enjoyed gardening, sewing for her daughters, cooking and reading.
On Sunday afternoons you would find her visiting with her mother in the Valley at the family farm. When her mother died, she continued her Sunday visits to the farm swapping stories with her brothers, Tom and Luke, and her nephew, Leonard. Family came first with Lorraine.
She kept all night vigils with dying family members, shared words of wisdom from a life well-lived, and modeled nurturing for her children. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; son, Edward Anthony; parents, Joseph and Barbara; brothers, Hugo, Don, Greg, Francis and Art; sister, Anna Mae Muggli-Miller. She is survived by her children, Barbara (Gary) Fleischer, Mike (Jan) Kaiser, Cynthia (Mike Frankovich), Bernadette (Warren) Garber; brothers, Luke and Tom; sister, Sister Agatha (Catherine Ann), OSB; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

There will be a Rosary Vigil at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Sacred Heart Church in Miles City. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Sacred Heart Church.
Because Lorraine desired that her body be donated to science, interment of ashes will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that a memorial donation be directed to Sacred Heart School or a charity of the donor’s choice.
